Before we dive into talking about how to use promotional gifts as an effective branding tool, let's revisit some branding basics. The whole purpose of having a brand is to make sure that anyone who sees anything related to your business (like your logo, your products and services, etc) will immediately associate quality with your business. The desired result is that these potential or existing customers will be more willing to pay more to buy your products and services because they can recognize a good brand when they see one. Let's take a closer look at how this is achieved. One look at your logo, and the prospect or customer makes a judgment about you and your business. That's how powerful a brand is. Whether or not they eventually decide to do any business with you depends on that one quick moment. But what is actually happening right here? How can anyone judge anything so quickly? People often judge based on prior experiences. Sometimes, they may not even remember the experiences very well but they have got this feeling somewhere. And they judge based on that. So if you have ever delivered a poor quality product, allowed a cheesy logo to get on your business cards, or do anything that spells "poorly done", your customers will give you the "death sentence" based on that. It doesn't matter how well you do in the future, but right now, they have been given a poor experience, and they have decided that everything related to your company is going to be bad. That's not necessarily true, but it doesn't matter. If customers think that way, it's true to them. And it's going to be an uphill battle to try and change their minds. To overcome that, the best strategy is to never deliver anything poorly done. If a product is of inferior quality (sometimes we get a few of those due to tight date lines), don't ever deliver them to your customers. Junk the products. It's way better to lose some upfront profits than to lose a lifetime customer. Besides, inferior products don't serve the customer well, and if the customers are not happy, they'll go out of their way to make sure that you're not happy as well. On the other hand, if you consistently deliver value and high quality products, they will come to really like doing business with you. You know that you're on the right course when customers trust you enough to place orders with you even without having to see the products that you produce. That's branding at work. With powerful brands, you can sell almost anything. Keeping all that in mind, you should now have ideas swimming in your head as to how to build a successful brand for your business. One idea is to use promotional gifts. Gifts create goodwill, and bring you closer to your customer. It's the best way to win the trust of potential customers because everything you want to say about your brand is in those gifts. Being promotional in nature, the gifts will help promote your business as well as your brand. Take the time to choose something really unique, get a creative marketing message across, and prove to your customers that you can indeed deliver high quality products and services. One of the major advantages of using promotional gifts is that you have a great degree of control over who you want to send the gifts to. This allows you to choose your target prospects or customers very carefully. Use promotional gifts wisely and tactfully, and you'll stand to reap the rewards because you always reap what you sow.
